The Road to Certification

If you read the About page, you know that I’m working on attaining Red Hat Certified System Administrator (and possibly Certified Engineer) certification. I’ve been in the IT industry since 1995 and this is the first cert I’ve actually been interested in. We’ll see how it goes.

The core text for my studies is Michael Jang’s RHCS/RCHE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide. Of course I realize there is more to having a full grasp of an OS than one single study guide. Over the course of the next however many months I’ll be supplementing y studies with other books, blogs, etc.

Now you may be asking yourself why this book, especially when it covers RHEL 6 and this exam was retired on Feb. 28. Well, frankly, there aren’t any RHEL 7 books out yet and I didn’t want to wait. Pretty simple. I anticipate a number of things will be different but I’ll just do a gap analysis when I get to that point. I really should’ve bought a cert coupon before the end of the month since it’s good for a year…hindsight being 20/20 and all.
